JOE PARKER PROFESSED a simple goal when announced as Colorado State University’s new director of athletics.

“Let’s become the best Colorado State we can possibly be,” he said.

Parker comes to CSU from Texas Tech, where he was deputy athletics director since 2011. Prior to that he served in various leadership capacities at some of the nation’s top universities, including Texas, Michigan, Oklahoma and Washington State, earning a sterling reputation as a fundraiser and athletics administrator.

A big part of Parker’s “best CSU we can be” quest centers around the success of the on-campus stadium. He said the new facility, which is projected to open in time for the 2017 football season, is a game-changer for CSU.

“An on-campus stadium will only amplify the college football experience for our fans and this community,” he said. “It will be a remarkable experience when people see that first game – something for us all to celebrate.”

Parker played a prominent role in raising funds to renovate the legendary “Big House” – Michigan Stadium – and will spearhead efforts to fundraise for CSU’s stadium. He will also implement ticketing and other policies associated with the project.
