CREATIVE RECYCLING

Design and Merchandising: Creative recycling fashion show

Creativity and sustainable design collided again this year as students in the Department of Design and Merchandising created garments for the Recycled Fashion Show, on display in the Avenir Gallery at the University Center for the Arts until Sept. 1. “Eco-Fashion: Through the Looking Glass” features fashions by students in Professor Diane Sparks’ AM 130 Design Foundations course, inspired by Lewis Carroll’s 1871 novel. The students employ duct tape, hot glue, and staples to mold unconventional and reclaimed materials into wearable three-dimensional forms. The annual show, produced by the CSU chapter of Fashion Group International, gives students the fundamentals of garment design and awareness of sustainability in the fashion industry.
