CSU is dedicated to making instructional spaces – in person and virtual – accessible to students of all abilities. That dedication is being extended to faculty as well, with the installation of a fully accessible ADA-compliant podium in 123 Adler Hall. Instructors who use wheelchairs – or anyone who requires extra accommodation – can raise and lower the podium, which also comes with a moveable AV system with a touch screen that anyone can operate as long as they have a laptop.

The podium is a successful collaboration among the College of Health and Human Sciences, the Assistive Technology Resource Center, the Inclusive Physical and Virtual Campus Committee, Facilities Management, and instructors who use wheelchairs, who helped guide the design process.

Since it was built in-house at a cost not significantly more than the average classroom revamp, the podium’s design could become more common across campus.
